Based on observations from the VLBA, new research suggests that the solar systems location in the galaxy is no longer a spur (the Local Arm), but "maybe a branch of the Perseus Arm, or possibly an independent arm segment".

I thought we were at the unfashionable end of the western spiral arm of the galaxy. at least that what I found in this volume with "Don't Panic" in large, friendly letters on the cover. ;)
