Registax question: What how many bits does it use for each colour channel in processing?

I have a technical question regarding registax. When Registax is processing data, how many bits does it use to represent each colour? is it 16 bits per channel? If I use the histogram tool is it working on 8 bit per channel data or 16 bit?
