LXD55 - Replacing the tripod ?

Does anyone know if the Meade LXD55 mounts have the same size and style tripod fitting as the EQ5 mounts ? - they look the same to me from pictures but I don't have both mounts together to compare exactly.

The reason I'm asking is that I would like to put a LXD55 mount on to a steel EQ5 tripod.

Has anybody tried this ?.

Also, I need to change the counterweight - is that the same fitting as an EQ5 as well ? (the Meade c/w bar is 19mm diameter I think).
