LHC and string/brane size

Recommended Posts

I'm working my way through Brian Greene's "Fabric of the universe" and he's anticipating the LHC coming on line and helping determine the possible size of strings or branes. Has there been any developments since he wrote the book?

I have seen a few docu's with Brian Green, made within the last few years I believe. And, if these strings exist they would be around the 10(-33)cm mark, so pretty darn small. The way he visualised this was:

If an atom was magnified to the size of solar system. An average string would be the size of a tree.

Its going to be very interesting to see the results when the LHC is back online, though finding a string is a bit much to ask.
