How do you hold yours...?

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone! How are you all?

I've recenfly obtained a planisphere which was kindly given to me by my girlfriends Dad!!

Haven't used it properly yet but how do you hold yours? I've tried using it as an example but it doesn't seem to line up with what I see unless I turn it upside down but west is east! Haha

How do you use and hold yours?

Thank you for your help!

Tom.

Hi Tom. Having set the time and date so the planisphere shows the current sky, what many people do is to hold it vertically towards whatever bit of sky you are facing, with the relevant horizon on the planisphere at the bottom.

For example, look east, hold the planisphere vertically with the east horizon at the bottom. The planisphere shows that general area of sky, overhead is the centre of the planisphere.

Repeat for any direction.

Post #2 works as well, try both ways, stick with what seems best for you.

HTH, Ed.
