V1489 Cygni - now the largest known star?

I have recently heard that V1489 Cygni (also known as NML Cygni) is now known to be the largest star discovered, even larger than VY Canis Majoris. I haven't seen much on the Internet about V1489 Cygni. What size of telescope would be needed to show the star, assuming that it can be seen with amateur telescopes.
