Germinating seeds of interest

Attended my local astronomy club this evening. It was their AGM but for once sky was clear so the committee decided to ignore the agenda (for a later, cloudy date) and head outside. Fair play to them.

It's at Paxton Pits near St Neots, Cambs and reasonably dark. Around 25 people turned up, a lot of them even newer than myself (a veteran of a couple of months lol)

Some members gave a guided tour of the sky with the aid of laser pointers. I even found myself sharing my very limited knowledge with some people. Naked eye viewing was great and then I passed my bins around and got pleasure from gasps of their first view of Pleiades at 10x50. M42, Jupiter and even M31 followed along with general straight up stuff at the wonder of countless stars in the Milky Way. I would like to think I may have helped some of those folks continue their budding interest in this great pastime.

I have a few hobbies but astronomers are by far the friendliest bunch, this forum is prime example.
