splitting Castor

Recommended Posts

The full moon was out, and i decided to split the bright double star Castor. The 4" refractor at 300x shows a easy clean split .both stars Castor A and Castor B where of same brightness. Castor C was making a triangle with the primary(s).my Celestron 4se splits lots of close pairs: even porimma in july 2011. And sirius in January 2012.

Yes, Castor is a cracking sight, and a small scope gives a nice view, it looks great through my 70mm refractor. And it doesn't stop there, each of the 3 visible stars are spectroscopic binaries, so it's a six star system.

I just love double and multiple stars, they can be well seen with heavy light pollution or a bright moon.

All the best from this side of the 'pond', Ed.
