I'm so grateful for all this advice. Hope one day I can return the favour. There is a large black piece which looks like a lens holder with no lens with two small gripping screws. Is this some kind of focal extender? If so what is it used for?

Hi redscanner, I have just been putting the EQ3 together and noticed this piece, I have no idea what it's for either! :embarrassed: It does look like a huge EP without the lenses, hopefully someone can advise. I suspect its got something to do with the Focuser, maybe an old part as the scope I bought now comes with the Crayford Focuser?? :confused:  God knows, the manual doesn't mention it.
