using after market ra/dec motors on eq5

Hi everyone,

Hope you can help me on a simple question regarding use of new ra/dec motors. I know that when the motors are engaged i can't use the slow motion knobs but can you unlock the ra/dec locking levers whilst the motors are engaged and manually slew to a different part of the sky or should i disengage the motors first? thanks for any advice.

Yes, unlocking the levers allows you to move the scope freely. In fact most motor kits (at least the ones I've met) include separate clutches so you can still use the slow-mo knobs if you undo the clutch first.

Thanks for that Ludd, i understood i could use the slo-mo if i released the clutch first, it was just whether i could use the manual slewing without releasing the clutches. man I'm rubbish at explaining myself.
