celestron nexstar 130 slt stuck at application start

So santa (me) bought the family a 130slt for christmas. We wanted to try it out tonight and already ran into a problem. When i power it on it 1st verifies package then goes to application start and no further! No where in the instruction manual does it say that i need to download anything from the internet! Am i missing something or is the telescope at fault?

Do you get the message "NexStar SLT" on the handset when the mount is powered up ?

Hi there. I'm not familiar with that particular scope, so probably not going to be much help. Is the hand controller display completely blank now? Can you slew the scope with the direction controls? I assume power is from a good set of new batteries (not rechargeables!)
