Help trying to get Jupiter and Moons !!

Recommended Posts

Hello to you all I am after a little bit of advice from anyone who can help me a little, I am using a lumix 5mp digital camera on a tripod while I am selling my scope amnd waiting for new bigger one.

I got this picture of Jupiter and the moons yesterday at about 2300 in the nice crisp weather at last but could not cut out the glare of jupiter and missing one of the moons. I can see one to the left on the lcd display.

I was at 12x zoom manual focus iso 400 f5,

just don't seem to be able to cut the glare out. THANK YOU ALL

Firstly with normal photographic lenses, you should always stop them down a bit, 1 to 1.5 f stops normally does wonders.

Secondly, you need really short exposures, Jupiter is pretty bright, maxing out as brigher than Sirius. Trouble is, if the shot is short enough to stop jupiter saturating, then the moons can have trouble showing up, a bit of trial and error works wonders.
