I'm eager to go, but I'm pretty shy when it comes to meeting new people and just wondered if anyone here already goes?

I think it's a matter a biting the bullet and going along. Almost everyone I've met to do with astronomy has been friendly and keen to learn or share their experience. If you're worried about meeting people in the dark, then go to a meeting first which will be in a public place. The worse thing that can happen is you don't like it and don't go again.

And as well, I find astronomy is a better hobby when it is shared.

Looking at the website, it seems very well organised. Might be worth popping along one of their events that seems really interesting, only being in Scunthorpe, and i stop off at donny on the commute to and from work.
