Star trailing and storm pictures

Recommended Posts

Hi

I want to share with you all this three pictures I took on the night of 01-Oct-12 of star trailing and a storm. The pictures were taken with an unmodified Canon T1i with the 18-55 kit lens during a blackout at my house in Bogotá, Colombia. Moon was at 96% that night:

Stars and Storm in 30 sec: http://flic.kr/p/dhHibd

And another one of Stars and Storm in 30 sec: http://flic.kr/p/dhHjxG

Comments and criticism are so welcome!

Best regards,

Alfredo

Alfredo, I really like them. During the 25 minute shot, did you get many hot pixels?

The city skyline has better picture composition because of context, the horizizon and trees are not "chopped off" like in the other 2. The detail in the stars and lightning are super in the other 30 sec picture, but I would have like to see more horizon in that. It's always nice to have a whole horizon (or no horizon at all).

I think you can get some really stunning shots if you keep experimenting on nights like these.

Keep up the good work.

Hi Vigdiz

I really appreciate your comments. Thank you very much!

The purpose was to take star trailing image around Polaris. Moon didn't help since it was at 96%. But the outcome is very sarisfactory.

Those two individual pictures were special because of the lightings. I really linked them.

The 25 min shot is the average of 50 individual 30-sec frames, so very few hot pixels were present. Nevertheless I used 30 dark frames; 30 sec Long each one. Then I averaged them and apply the Master dark to each ligh in Deep Sky Stacker.

Best regards

Alfredo
