I do believe you've won a prize for "Oldest Thread Ever Resuscitated." Not that I'm complaining! :D

I see quite a few photo's of scopes using the current jargon of 'Astrograph" - whereas we used to call these "Rich-Field" telescopes - and the current crop of these show the OTA as having been extended a good distance from the focuser:

Creating such shouldn't be too difficult. Perhaps made with something like the plastic-foam used for AstroZap® Dew-Caps? Or anything else you can think of.
