I live about 10 miles from St Andrews and would cut my arm off to live in the Canary Islands. If I were you,I would stay there, if at all possible.

That said if you have to come here, there are some very clear nights in the Winter and if you have transport, there is a Dark Sky site at Galloway Forest, which is a 2 hour drive.

There is also an Observatory and Astro Club in Dundee, which i keep meaning to join.

I would say it's worth bringing your scope but be prepared for dew, you will need some heater tapes etc.

And something very warm to wear. And warm boots.

And coffee and whiskey.

I wish i lived in arizona.

There is an astronomy society based in Dalgety Bay (south Fife) who meet on a regular basis during the winter nights. They have regular observing evenings at a golf course car park just to the south of St Andrews. Their website is http://db-astro.org/wordpress/
