new laptop or mac ?

my laptop has just died...

so i was wondering, i am in teh process of getting into astrophotography. i have the phillips webcam and have had a go at some stacking but.. as the lappy has died i willl have to start again with teh downloading of software etc.

my question is this

is it better to use a windows based pc/laptop or can i go with an apple mac lappy and still find free software for teh mac OS?

Evening. Yes there are 2 free ones for apple. I have both. Kieth s. Astroimager and Macam. I dont use Kieth s as I an computer dyslexic! It is very good, so I told! Macam is so simple- please see preceeding post , when youve got it tell me how to use it !! Good luck. Jonathon

In general both Linux and Mac are pretty good supported for astronomy software, sometimes even better than for Windows. I say go for it, just choose something you feel comfortable using.

went for a windows 7 lappy in the end. any recomendations for softwhere regard webcam imaging. i also use my canon 550d for lunal pics so any thing to help with that too
