Mare Crisium; on the waning terminator.

Superbly placed tonight , even with contrails and high cloud. Using an erecting diagonal, 10 mm Vixen Plossl in a Vixen 90mm refractor managed to tease a lot of detail out of the Plain of Mare Crisium.

To the eastern edge there were several long rills and a smaller line to the south west. This is the landing area of Lunar 15 and 24.

In addition to the north/ south dorsum, craters Swift, Peirce and Picard stood out well with shadow to the walls. There was a further snake like rill to the west of Picard and further craters to the north east. The peaks to the terminator just floated as bright islands in the background. To the edge of the Mare there were a mass of valley and further craters detailed.

What appears as a featureless plain certainly reveals a variety of features. I tried higher magnification, but the viewing is not great at the moment.

This is a large and obvious feature to the north east of the surface and well worth looking at,

Nick.
