what goto mount can/should i get?

Recommended Posts

i have a 130mm skywatcher with an alt azi mount. i would like to be able to type in the co-ordinates of an object and for the telescope to then point to it. i know these exist. but am very unsure on what i actually need for it to work. i am fairly new to telescopes so any help would be appreciated. thank you :)

All you need to convert the Supatrak mount to goto is a V3 Synscan handset, the cable to connect the handset to the mount and the serial cable to flash the handset to the correct firmware. You can also use a bluetooth module such as this one http://www.365astronomy.com/bluetooth-interface-for-skywatcher-autotracking-merlin-p-2390.html which will allow you to control the mount from a netbook/laptop using Stellarium or Cartes Du Ciel.

Thank you for this Peter; for those of us with PhDs in Chemistry rather than electronics, is there a simple guide somewhere on "how to do it"?
