First Time using CS5 for Solar Processing

I am brand new to photoshop, so bear with me.

First time using masks for a high and low exposure image, for proms and surface detail.

My transitions are a little rough, and I really struggled with the 'refine mask' tool. Couldn't quite adjust edges and feather perfectly, but I am please to finaly be able to produce one image with both proms and surface detail. Also struggling with background. Would like black background with a radiance fromn the sun, so used a radient fill layer, but still struggling. I really like the metalic blue background a lot of you use, would like to try that as well.

Please throw in some criticism and help yourslef to the two raw images that were stacked with registax.

if youre transitions is rough i dread to see what mine is like when i have my first go.
