Controlling 1000D form laptop

A friend of mine borrowed me his Canon EOS 1000D and i want to give it a try in some astroimaging... Where can i get some utility to control the camera from my laptop?

If you have the discs that came with the camera then Canon utilities will do the job. If not you can download APT or Backyard EOS. Both work well.

Ahh, nice! I've heard good things about these 2 programs. I applied for a 30-day trial on the website... Should i expect an answer soon from the system or it takes time for them to allow me to have the 30 day trial?

What would you recommend between these 2?

I have started using APT as firstly it could control more than 1 camera, but Ivo's support has been outstanding for me when I had problems with my older camera, you don't need to give away an email address for a trial either, a pet hate of mine, you just download it and it works, I bought the full version.
