Annular Solar Eclipse 20 May 2012

Recommended Posts

Still in the USA so sorry for the delay regarding the eclipse.

The star trails shot was taken deep into Monument Valley later that evening, I spent the night out with the Navajo Indians talking about their astronomy legends.

What an awesome place!

I happened by chance to be in Moab, Utah, about 100 miles north of you during the eclipse. It wasn't completely annular there, but what most interested me about it was the funny things it did to shadows on the ground. If you held up your fingers to the light of the partially eclipsed sun, their shadows on he ground were strangely pointed and multiplied by the unusual directions the sun's rays were coming from. I haven't heard this effect remarked upon before in relation to eclipses.
