Strange photo - lens flare or not?

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone - I've been hovering around in the background for a while now, and finally thought it's about time I "met" some of you lovely people, so here goes :(:(.

I'm 18 and I've been pretty interested in space and it's contents for as long as I can remember... I'm just finishing my A levels (exams... boo!) and i've never really had enough money to buy a decent scope. I borrowed some binoculars yesterday, and took out a camera in order to have a peek, and just photograph the sky so I could pick out the constellations using stellarium when I got home.

I got a little sidetracked, and took a couple of photos of the moon... One of which turned out like this:

(sorry it's so big)

At the time I thought I saw something red next to the moon with my binoculars, but I don't have very steady hands so wasn't really sure... It wasn't until I uploaded the photos that I noticed it was back... turns out it also looks perfectly spherical? :)!

Not meaning to sound silly, but i'm not much of a photographer (first time i'd touched a camera in about 2 years), and I honestly don't have a clue what it is... Little help?

Many thanks in advance, and for the great advice and info i've already found!

Geesus
