Lake district sites

Have booked a fortnight in the Lake District this summer - is it worth taking any serious gear with me or just the binos? If so a few good sites would be handy.

I think anywhere in the lakes is good when away from the lights. I stayed in a village called Whittington just outside Kirkby Lonsdale recently. when out of the street lights, the view of the milky way was bordering on emotional. seriously. this was with naked eye. even a small scope would be good.
