do you need a tracker/goto to use a webcam?

Recommended Posts

Just after a quick bit of advice guys,

I would like to do some webcam imaging in the future.

Can you use a webcam without any form of tracking amd then ustill use something like registax to make a good image?

Thanks in advance,

Rob.

Correct. Webcam + Dobsonian (or non driven mount) is where a lot of people start with planetary / lunar :D

You just have to "nudge" the scope every so often to bring the target back into view, then hit record again!

No, you don't need motorised tracking. It helps to have a screen you can see, though. Before I got the EQ6 and replaced the knackered computer I could easily do four minutes hand tracking Jupiter on the manual EQ3 by having my desktop connected to a 42" telly I could see through the window.

A long winded way to say if you can see it on a screen then you can very easily keep it in the field of view, even when you're at a bit of a handicap.
