Gary_
Hi, Im a complete newbie and was going to ask about moon filters but somebody beat me to it, im putting a Baader 0.9 Neutral Density Moon filter in my online basket as we speak.I need some advice on UHC & OIII filters, iv been told that a oIII filter will be the best to buy but i just want to be sure so any advice would be great. Thanks in advance :-)
David Smith
Hello Gary. Check out this recent thread on the subject of filters. To some extent it depends on what scope you have and what you want to look at as to what is "best", but I would suggest a UHC is probably the best place to start.http://stargazerslounge.com/beginners-help-advice/184318-light-pollution-nebula-filters.html
Gary_
Thanks David, i still dont really know what to buy as they both seem good.I have a baader Neodymium filter and it works great for planets and quite good on the moon when its cresent and not too bright. i just want something to give me more detail when viewing nebua. I have a SW Explorer 200p by the way.
David Smith
UHC would work fine on your 200P. It can be used on quite a wide variety of objects so I tend to find I use it more at the moment. I haven't had either UHC or OIII filter very long, but found the OIII gives a very dark image in the eyepiece. I also have the Neodymium which is my current favourite as it seems to work on just about anything!
John
I'd also suggest a UHC with a 200P. An O-III will work OK but a UHC is a more versatile filter. These only enhance the views of nebulae though, not galaxies and clusters.
Gary_
Thanks for the replys,I think ill order a UHC today. What filters would enhance galaxies and clusters?
