Barlow Opinions

Recommended Posts

I have a Evostar 120 & with my selection of EP's & magnification limits with the scope I am looking at upgrading my existing SW 2X Barlow (which is ok....).

Read a lot of recommendation on here to performance of TAL 2X Barlow.

On Skies the limit website they have a 3 element & a 2 element 2X Achromatic short profile barlow for sale.

Does anyone have any opinions on the performance of the Achromatic Barlows on Skies the Limit and how they compare to the TAL 2X?

Any comments & advice gratefully received.

Thanks

Nope I can't say I wanted to try them when the TAL is so keenly priced and well recommended I didn't want to take the chance. I have acquired 3 other barlow since then in 'deals' I have made, a Skywatcher deluxe 2x, a Celestron 2x but not the cheapo one and a Revelation 2x, non are as good as the TAL. The revelation is quite good as was the Celestron but the Skywatcher deluxe was awful in comparison. All of these were 2 element achromatic types. I have kept the Revelation and my TAL but sold the others. I would be interested in a Celestron X-Cel barlow to maybe see how that performs but I am convined that nothing under probably £50 is better than the TAL but others may disagree.

Great advice thanks. I looked at 3X TAL but with my scope & EP's the magnification I would get is highter than Highest Practical Power (Potential) for the scope which is x240.

I think the 2X is a better option for my refractor
