RGB Imaging question

I'm trying to figure out how to process RGB images in PS and need some help. I'm trying my hand at some of the hubble data and hopefully help with the learning curve when I switch from SLR to CCD, but the problem is that a lot of the data only has R&B data and no G data. I know that you are suppose to combine R&B to make a synthetic G but I'm having trouble figuring out exactly how. If someone wouldn't mind explaining it I'd really appreciate it. I have CS5 btw.
