My second expedition

I went out to Pen Tor on Dartmoor last night to see what I could see.

There was some LP from Tavistock and a bright moon, but I picked up some nice planetary views and a few more messiers (M1, M81, M82).

M1 was very faint, but M81 and M82 were very obvious. My only disappointment was that I forgot to take my new TAL Barlow!

I'm beginning to realise how difficult it is to see structure in DSOs.

Edit : There's a useful iPhone app called Messier list which provides a checklist amongst other things.

It's good up there, isn't it?

I was up near Hound Tor the other night and had some great views even though the sky transparency wasn't so good. I posted about it on here, saw plenty with my 106mm refractor. It helped that there was no moon at all. I must go back with the mak!

M42 was spectacular
