Surprised by Saturn and Mars

I was out with the scope again last night, and while it was clear, it didn't look a brilliant night. There was haze around the horizon and didn't expect too much. Visually, Mars was looking good, with plenty of detail which surprised me. I grabbed the laptop and my webcam, and quickly set up for some imaging. Jupiter and Venus had long since set, so that just left Mars and Saturn.

For the first time, the live view from the webcam was showing detail on Mars, rather than just a fuzzy circle, and it did the same for Saturn. I'm very pleased with the result. I've only had a go at planets about four times, and was starting to wonder if my webcam wasn't good enough for imaging planets, but it turns out you just need the right visibility.

Saturn enlarged 125%
