La Superba

Recommended Posts

The Binocular Sky Object of the Month for March is Y Canum Venaticorum, otherwise known as La Superba. It is a beautifully red carbon star that is nearing the end of its life. In the early evening, it is at an altitude that will not strain your neck if you are using straight-through binoculars.

Would La Superba be at all possible with 10x50s?

Unless you have appalling light pollution, yes. It is a naked eye object (just) on dark nights around here, making it easy in even small binoculars. You'll know it when you find it -- the colour gives it away.
