Was it The Orion Nebula that you were looking at?

It was indeed ScubaMike. At the time I didn't know what it was. I just knew it looked really great. Then when I read your reply I Googled 'Orion Nebula' and found this:

"The Orion Nebula is one of the most scrutinized and photographed objects in the night sky, and is among the most intensely studied celestial features"

I felt a bit of a noob to have suddenly discovered such a classic, but I was also quite proud that I had found it on my own with only my binos for company. My first success! :)
