Yes, the Stellarium program is amazing. You can turn your pc into an observatory, or it will guide a goto mounted scope to any celestial object and track it. You can give it your location to see the sky as you would see it but as though your screen was a telescope - zoom in on the moon or further out to see jupiter and get good views of its multiple moons. It gives you an entire solar system and the vital info like the position, distance, magnitude,co-ordinates and even shows satellites as they drift across the sky.

A Must for any sky watcher....

Is there ever a time/date where the planets effectively line up as per the tomb raider film ?

Wow, there's a thought. If the answer is yes then the frequency would be years and years apart = a very large number x 10 to the Brian Cox :D i reckon.
