Nova
I have always wondered about the blanked apperture myself but the capped one I use sometimes on the moon (takes away some of the glare) and a lot of people use it for attaching a solar filter and observing the sun. I could be wrong but doesnt the reduced apperture affect the f ratio?
ChrisThePuma
I believe it is a historical thing that isn't used anymore.one thing i found though is if you leave the big one on and just take off the small one when looking at the moon you get a more comfortable view as it dims it somewhat. (haven't got a moon filter yet)Hope this helps?chris
steelfixer
Hi thereThe removable cap is as has already been said for viewing bright objects by reducing the appatureThe blank cap is the holder for the removeable cap. You will find the removable cap fits on top of the blank.
