Attempt to capture Mars (Need a bigger Mirror)

Neil,

The good news is that your image is certainly no worse than my first attempt. Mars is notoriously difficult.

  • There seems to be some movement ... may be worth checking your tracking.
  • Very over-exposed, it is always better to err on the side of under-exposure (you can bring out faint detail) than over-exposure (once a detail is 'burned out' it is gone for good)
  • Not sure if the focus is quite spot on - difficult to tell due to the overexposure.

Sorry if that sounds like a lot, but each of those is fairly easy to remedy and I think that would produce a decent image.

Mars is difficult but 127Maks cope with it very well but it needs experience and a well collimated scope with steady seeing, collimate on a star. You must not give up, choose a shorter fl and build up to a comfortable focal length and don't over expose.

John.
