visible planets

am i right in thinking (google info) that in march 2012 we will be able to see mars at its closest??? when can we expect to see venus? you notice im going for the closest planets (i doubt myself and my experience)

Mars : Yes (closest for the next 2 years anyway, not its closest ever)

Venus : Visible at dusk at present I think

mick, mars early next year, venus now at dusk 3.45-4.30 ish, jupiter now from 5.00 pm onwards, saturn now from ~3, 3.30 am.

With Jupiter and Saturn no need to doubt your skills...I am a complete noob at this and Jupiture and Saturn have been by far the most spectacular sites I have seen so far...apart from the moon...the orion nebula (M42) and the Paladies (M45) are also really good sites when starting out and are very easy to pick out of the sky along with Jupiter and Saturn.

yeah i seen venus today at around 4.50pm (naked eye only,santa hasnt been yet with my scope,ha) it was low in the (approx sw) sky at that time.
