First ever telescope advice

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, newbie here. If you guys can give me a little advice on what kind of telescope i have and what can i see with it, that would be great!

I just bought my first telescope from a pawn shop, managed to haggle it down to 350$ I don't know much about it, other then its a sky-watcher pro 120mm ED refractor and colored gold. Is it a good telescope? Is there a difference between this and the new black ones? The new black ones seem to have APO. What is APO? does mine have it?

Thanks in advance from Canada!

oh bad luck, what a rubbish scope you have bought.......:)

tell you what, since you bought a dud, sell it to me:D

Joking aside, if its in good or even reasonable condition that is a superb buy, a right little find, its the same model as the new black tube Evostar 120 pro ED, its an APO which means apocromatic using o`hara glass, in good nick i would expect to pay about $600 to $700 for it, well done

Hi Gimli,

I have an Skywatcher ED120 Pro in the gold colour scheme - it's an excellent scope - you probably paid about half what it was worth so it was a good buy !.

Did it come with a mount or do you still need to get one of those ?.

Thanks guys. Had it checked out and the optics are just fine.

It came only with aluminum tripod legs and some weights. Is there a place i can buy the missing head?

I was thinking of buying a celestron cg-4 mount. Would this be good enough for observing, cause i do not plan on taking pictures much.

Thanks.

The CG5 would be much better from my experience. Those aluminum tripod legs will flex a lot and make vibrations very obvious at high powers. You got the scope for a great price so it's worth investing in a good mount for it. A good scope on an inadequate mount is a very frustrating experience.
