Local astro evening class (Berkshire)

I wasn't really sure where to post this so I settled on The Astro Lounge, it's both a bit of a question and heads up.

During the summer just after I'd gotten interested in the night sky, I had a paper drop through the letter box advertising some courses being run at the university of Reading by Ox Ed continuing education, one of them was called "An introduction to astronomy" and I thought I'd sign up.

Well it's getting towards Christmas and next week is the last week of 10 lectures and I've found it a fascinating experience.

I remember rushing back one night and spending an hour rereading TL@O having been learning about how something like the Ring Nebula is formed.

In summary as a beginner I thought the course was really good and I'm planning on going back for more in the new year.

I was just wondering what similar courses others here had come across? I've seen other people mention courses with the open university in the past.

Hi Tyr,

Yes the OU has some great courses - I've just completed S194 - Introducing Astronomy and found the entire course fascinating, so much so that I've now signed up to do a BSc Honours degree in Natural Science, specialising in astronomy and planetary science!

I think the S194 course is ending soon but there will probably be another one as a replacement. The best thing about studying science, and especially astronomy, is that there is ALWAYS more to learn!

Best of luck and clear skies.

Thanks for the info SonicBOOM, it looks like it might even be possible to transfer credits from one into the other.

sevs23, it sounds like the same set of courses these are being tutored by Matt North as well.
