Please Help with my EQ5 upgrade kit

Hi everyone

Iam new here and new to astronamy.

Got my self an upgrade kit for EQ5 but been having difuclties with star alligment. For some reason it does not point in to the right derection.

I think i have done my polar aligment properly but it still points into the wrong direction

Would anyone here be able to actualy show me or i can show how i do it

I live in melbourne, Brighton area

Do you have the Longitude and Latitude in the right way around?

Hi there.

Have you upgraded it with synscan.

If you have when you put your information in the handset you must put the date in in American format ie 12/03/2011 not the english way of 03/12/2011

this will probably solve your problem.

Yes it is synscan and it was set to american format

in regards to latitude and longitude i only set Latitude to 37

Which part of my mount let me set Longitude

You set the long and lat in the handset. You can get your long and lat coordinates from google. just put your location in google maps

ohh yeah that one i know i thought you were talking about the dials on the mount

But make sure your Long and Lat are in Degrees and Minutes NOT decimal!!!

For some reason when it asked me to choose a star it also gives me stars from bellow horizon

I thought it only sees what ever is up in the sky

Should you not be setting your latitude to -37 degrees ( the minus sign indicating south of the equator ) ?

When calibrating is it suppose to show me only stars that above horizon or both?

It will show you stars in your equatorial range. Are you absolutely sure you Long and Lat are correct and that your latitude setting on the mount is correct? If you post your location I will check it for you.
