A pair of Sombreros

... Sombrero galaxies, to be precise. I captured the so-called Little Sombrero last night, which was a new one for me. NGC 7814, Caldwell 43 or UGC 8 in Pegasus. This is work in progress, and I hope to get more luminance and colour if we get a clear night again soon, but here's the first result. These edge-on galaxies are really superb. Quite a few faint fuzzies all over the field, including 14th-magnitude IC 5381 to the lower right (apparently 500 million light years distant. wow)

22 x 5 mins, SXVF-H9, 250mm f/4.7 Newtonian, NEQ6, QHY5/ST80 guiding.

And here's the original Sombrero, M104 / NGC 4594, in Virgo which I captured earlier in the year with my Canon 450d DSLR.
