Saturn/Venus : quick view

Finally had a break in the clouds today at 9.30pm. So decided to try the omc 140 out for a quick look at Saturn and Venus in the front garden - with the wind blowing, not very dark and adjacent street light.

Didn't let the scope cool , but after about 15 mins the view became surprisingly good.

Nice crisp views but no cassini visible with 10mm ep. I could see what I think were 3 moons to the left and something below maybe 5 to 6 planet diameters down- is there a moon in this position?

Venus looked nice- crisp and bright again.

Glad I made the effort as conditions turned worse as I packed up.

Today I was using the stock diagonal and ep's that came with my Helios scope, but soon will be getting better ones - can't wait to get out again.

Hi Mand

I've found the following java applet invaluable for confirming my Saturn moon sightings.

You just put in the date and time and what kind of scope (Newt, SCT etc.) and it shows you what you were looking at.
