Modded 300d or std 1000d ?

Recommended Posts

Imho you'll prefer the 1000D with it's live view. It's less noisy than the 300D and you can allways get the 1000D mod'ed. That said - the 350D was allmost an astro standard for several years - better than the 300D which is only USB1 - well worth looking at. Have a read of this page for a good comparison:

A modded 300 will bring out the infra red in your astrophotography. It makes a big difference when you image something like the crescent nebula or pacman nebula, with a standard DSLR you will only get a fraction of the actual nebula. If you plan on using the camera for everyday imaging, I believe there is a way to custom balance your modded DSLR but Im not exactly sure. For Astro, modded DSLR. For everything else, the 1000D.

Also, unless you mod the camera yourself, it can get a bit pricey to hire someone to do it.
