Tracking camera mount

Hi all

Just wanted to run an idea i had last night whilst looking at the clouds!!!!!!!

I have been given a etx 90 with a broken tube. Everything else works tho. It even has the deluxe field tripod with the wedge. I was thinking that if i made a platform to go across the fork arms, (where the tube would sit) with a bolt through the centre to take a camera, lens etc, then i would have a goto wide field astrophotography tripod.

Anyone think that this could be feasible????

As i said, its just a thought...............

Regards

Steve

I can't think of a reason why this wouldn't work. It might be a bit awkward to do the initial alignment because you don't have a scope to look through. It would probably be OK if your DSLR has LiveView. The camera view finder would probably also work but be not very accurate. But for wide filed shots it might not matter.

Give it a try since you have the mount anyway.. ;-)

I used to piggy back a DSLR on the ETX105EC and Daluxe Field Tripod (the one with the wedge) and have used it with a Meade DSI and lenses up to 200mmm FL...

As long as you can balance the camera platform to minimise the strain on the gears I think you may be pleasantly suprised ...
