IC1805 Narrowband

Recommended Posts

This was taken last month over a few days. 30 minute exposures break down like this:

18 - Ha

14 - OIII

13 - SII

I tried "tone mapping" as outlined by JPM here:

I also used JPM's star removal Action set here:

Astro Anarchy: PS-actions

Processed in CS4.

Equipment:

EON120 Refractor

Atlas Mount

Lodestar AG

Parsec 8300M

Orion 2" Narrowband filters

Full Image:

Cropped Central Portion:

I was pleasantly surprised how well the 100% looks through out the image.

Thanks JPM for the tutorial!

Thanks Rauno, Neil, and Olly!

Yes the halos would appear with my OIII filter, but using JPM's "Master Luminance" really helps. Basically you're removing all the stars in the SII and OIII and then blending it softly into the Ha frame with stars. My Ha frames has nice stars.

One thing I did a little different from JPM's tutorial was cleaning up the larger stars. JPM mentions "cloning" to clean up. I found using the "Healing Brush Tool" to work much better. The HBT removes the star but leaves the nebula dust intact.

Still a great tutorial, I highly recommend trying JPM's tone map.

I was browsing around and I found someone talking about a tiny "triple star" in IC1805, I looked and yes I have it too!

Here are some more crops from the original image:

There's another tiny triple in this image too:
