My First Jupiter Sighting

Well last night was my first proper night out with my telescope. When the clouds cleared enough. Roughly 2230. So i get used to focusing with the different lenses.

Turn to look at the bright planet i have seen in the sky all last week. And get it in my scope. Now i thought it maybe Mars probably a newbie mistake. I get it focused and see it was Jupiter. I could see its four moons. I could just see the difference in the coulour belts. I was well excited. Had to tell Mum and Dad.

Then i turned to look at the moon. And again well excited. As i could see the details clearly. Then i put my barlow in with the 25mm lense. The details were amazing. Could even see shadows. Mum came out for a look at the moon!

Not bad for a first night out! Def going to be hooked.

Great to hear you had some clear sky in Dorset - continual rain the last week for us in North Devon. Jupiter really is a fantastic sight.
