Removing IR Filter on DSLR

All this cloud cover is leaving me with time to tinker :)

I've got an old Canon 350D that I don't use any more, so I've been thinking about modifying it by removing the IR filter.

So the question is do I need to replace the filter, or can I just leave it out?

I wouldn't be using this camera for anything else by the way

Cheers

If its going to spend all its life on a scope then no you dont.. ideally you want to take care of the IR/UV ends of the spectrum dependign on how you want to use it at any given time... If you buy the right LP filters they will take care of the UV/IR cut for you... or you can even use it for IR pass

If you think you might want to do some widefield work with camera lenses then your either going to need a repalcement filter or clear glass replacement -- or more expensive camera lenses that will still allow you to achieve infinity focus...

My 350D is filter removed and can inifinty focus with my Canon L series lenses... it won't focus with EF or EF-S lenses...
