1.30 am BST Manchester Bright Orange object West to East

Couldn't sleep so went out into the back garden with a set of bins just in time to see a VERY bright Orange ball travelling roughly West to East at 1.30 am BST. Very clear skies for this light poluted area (South Manchester). Through bins it was still a bright Orange ball, no visible tail. First seen roughly overhead then followed visually for 20 to 30 seconds before it dissappeared below nearby roof line.

Anyone catch it and can you identify it.

Could have been but it went in a dead straight line and seemed to be travelling at about 2 x high level jet. Terry

A Chinese lantern would fly in a straight line. How were you able to estimate its altitude as 2 x jet height?

If you haven't spotted one of these Lanterns before they can be very misleading.
