Can I add more sockets to my maplins powerstation?

Recommended Posts

I have a Maplins 3 in 1 Powerstation that powers my CPC 925 scope. Does anyone know if it's possible to somehow turn it into a multi socket system so I can fit other 12v applicances into it, such as an Orion Dew Zapper that I am looking into buying?

Damn Dew!! Last night me, my corrector lens, and all my equipment were fully drenched! Though somehow I still managed to get my best look ever of the moon since I bought it.

You can add a 4 into 1 adaptor to give you more outlets, somewhere like Halfords or Maplins sell them. BUT be careful you don't run out of amps as the battery in powerstation is likely to no more than 17Ahr and even that capacity will be optimistic even fully charged. The mount is likely to draw 2-2.5A so at best you would get 8 hours out of it without adding anything else.

Instead of buying a Dew Zapper, how about a dew sheild. Essentially all you need for this is a campers sleeping mat - usually made from thin/light neoprene foam and a hot-glue gun (recommended for DIY, second only to an electric screwdriver)

Just cut a length off the mat so that it will fit snugly around your C9.25 far enough (say 15 cm) to stay in place and extend out about one-and-a-half times the tube's diameter i.e. 9.25 * 1.5 = 14 inches, then just hot-glue the edges together - taking care to keep the glue off your skin: it's glue and it's hot!

Though somehow I still managed to get my best look ever of the moon since I bought it.

I've added an extra 'cigar lighter' socket to my basic 'jump start' Maplins battery unit.

But beware, when I tried to run two 12v dew busters, it cut out. I thought I may have fried it, but after a few minutes, there was a click, and it has worked ok ever since.

It does work with a 12v dew gun and a fan at the same time.

Regards, Ed.
