I have used this before

Pazera Free MOV to AVI Converter - Free software downloads and software reviews - CNET Downloads for mov to avi but not for an astro vid. Could give it a go and see how you get on. TBH its a mine field with loads of "free" converters but ill bet most are front end hooks to try and get you to buy software. I susspect you may have to try a few
