TMB Type II & GSO Plossl vs Celestron Kit

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I was hoping someone might have some direct experience that might help me. I have a 150mm Newt F/5 and bought the Celestron EP kit at the same time. I have the urge to upgrade the EPs but dont have much of a budget. The TMB Type II seem to have had some good reviews (considering their price) and the GSO Plossls seem to have provided people with good views also. These dont appear to be very expensive and so I wondered would i notice any improvement on the standard Celestron EPs i got in the EP kit (variety of plossls, barlow, filters) or would i need to thinking about spending the €90ish (£80) mark? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

AFAIK, the Celestrons are made by GSO anyway so I doubt they'll give you much improvement.

The TMB's are dedicated planetary eyepieces, so should perform better than a Plossl in a fast scope like yours. I'm sorely tempted with a 5 mm TMB for my F5 Newt....
